Twelve Christmas Narratives

Narrative #09

Each evening around 9 pm I journey out into my neighborhood for my dog walk. Sophie and I average about a mile a night - rain, snow, sleet, or hail. There is not a whole lot you can do while walking a dog except look around and think about things. I sometimes write them down as my " dog walk musings ". The Neighborhood changes as it struggles to keep up with the future. At Christmas many decorate their houses with lights and scenes of the season. Some 35 years ago we were the newly weds on the block. On both sides of our " new " home was the home of an " older lady " who's children had grown and gone and who's husband had past away. They were really nice people as is the quality of our community. This image is a house on our street two doors down from us. Every year this scene would appear in December, Gary and his wife have now retired and moved to florida. Our children have grown and gone away and, after changing hands a few times, the houses on both sides of us are now occupied by newlyweds soon to have children. In December, I now miss seeing this nativity on my dog walks, musing how history repeats itself.
